Bali, Indonesia (Other Tourist Spots)
-April, 2010-
After the temples, we went to visit their Coffee Place. Bali is famous for its Kopi Luwak. It is one of the world's most expensive coffee. It is made from the beans of coffee berries which have been defecated by an animal known as a Civet. After gathering, thorough washing, sun drying, light roasting and brewing, these beans yield an aromatic coffee with much less bitterness.

Not being able to stomach the Kopi Luwak knowing it came from an animal's feces, we declined the free taste no matter how expensive it is. We tried other coffee varieties though as well as their local cocoa and teas. I enjoyed the ginger and lemon grass the most.
The free taste was perfect for the weather, it was starting to rain. The hot drinks provided us much warmth.
We left as the skies started to sob for our long awaited lunch. We were both starving.
We ate at a restaurant with a great view of Batur Volcano and Lake Batur. We ate at the villages of Kintamani and Penelokan. We had buffet which costs 70,000 ruppiah each. We were joking each other that this was the most expensive meal we've had had although when converted to peso it would be around P350/ head. We were able to taste their local foods, which are quite spicy like their chicken curry. They have huge kropek and I had this fruit with lots of seeds for dessert.
Since the restaurant was located in a high area the weather was cool. Rain just stopped and fogged masked the view of the volcano and the lake. At first we could only see its silhouette, good thing the fog cleared a bit after our meal.
Our last stop before checking in at our new hotel was the Banjur Hot Spring. We soaked for around 30mins relaxing. There was an area there where the water from the hot springs comes out from the mouth of demons. The water's temperature is at 38°C. Because it has a high brimstone content, it is believed to heal skin diseases (perfect for me!).
After the soak we went straight to Pemuteran where our next hotel was located, the Taman Sari. Our room was even upgraded. My sister made a good choice booking that hotel.
